Academic Program Changes
As part of Southern Utah University’s continued commitment to aligning academic offerings with student interest and workforce demand, we are phasing out select academic offerings.
These changes are not made lightly and are the result of extensive review, reflecting broader shifts in higher education and the job market
Impacted Programs
SUU is no longer accepting students into the following impacted programs.

- Feedback from department supervisors
- Efficiency and enrollment trend reviews

Program Teach-Out & Student Support
The following impacted programs are prepared to ensure every student has a clear path forward:
- Arts Administration (MFA – face-to-face)
- Art History (BA/BS)
- French (BA)
- Philosophy (BA/BS)
- Ethnic Studies (minor)
- Women & Gender Studies (minor)
- Hotel, Resort, and Hospitality Management – Food and Beverage Emphasis (BA/BS)
- Music – Piano Performance Emphasis (BM)
- Legal Studies (AA/AS)
Degrees Available Through Summer 2027
- Students already enrolled in an affected program (2024–2025 catalog or earlier) can complete their degree. SUU will offer a full teach-out through Summer 2027.
- Students who deferred enrollment or are returning after an extended absence should meet with their Department Chair to discuss available paths.
- New students will not be accepted into discontinued programs, including change-of-major requests and transfer students. Students interested in these programs should speak with an academic advisor to explore alternative options.
Planning for the Future
- Personalized plans are coming. Department Chairs will contact students enrolled in impacted programs directly to discuss individual paths to completion.
